This post is on one of the pistols I own and shoot often. I am a firm believer that the gun should fit you not the other way around
Why I Chose the Springfield XDM 40:
I bought this pistol because during the apocalypse getting the chance to stop and clean your weapons will probably be few and far between. Maintaining your weapon is very important but if it gets neglected for any amount of time it won’t kill me. The torture tests that people have done on this model amazed me, mud, water, freezing, sand, dropped, and never cleaned, and the whole time not 1 jam after 2,000 rounds. I did a lot of reading up on different brands (Glock, Sig, Kimber, ect.) and calibers then I did a lot of test firing of the brands I narrowed it down to. This one really stood out for me. It met all of my needs in the price range I was willing to spend. The grips come from the factory with inserts for different sized hands (small, medium, and large), 2 high capacity clips 16+1 a holster for the clips that the speed loader mounts to. A compression fit belt holster for the gun itself. I got rid of the holster it came with and went with a Serpa because of the smoother draw.
The caliber is a .40 if you didn't already know. The main thinking on this was a 9mm would be just fine for the hordes of undead but unfortunately there will be raiders and other unlikable kinds wanting to take what you have worked so hard for. The extra punch will help deter the others in the raiding party when they see a baseball sized hole in their buddy's back from the exit wound.
The light I have on there is a Streamlight TLR-1 it is extremely bright, very rugged and waterproof. It is "soft" mounted so I can switch it to my AR or my Shotgun quickly.
